Charges held in county court against man with lengthy criminal record accused of bloody attack at 7-Eleven

A man with an extensive criminal record who is out on bail has waived all charges against him in county court at a preliminary hearing for his alleged role in a brutal attack at a 7-Eleven in Lansdale in September.

Ronald Anthony Heitz, no fixed address, 32, faces charges of aggravated assault, misdemeanor attempted simple assault, recklessly endangering another person and defiant trespass, as well as summary charges of harassment and disorderly conduct, for incident that occurred at the Main Street and Cannon Avenue department store, according to court documents.

At the hearing, Magisterial District Judge Ed Levine changed bail from $25,077 cash to $25,077 unsecured, and Heitz surrendered on Oct. 23, according to court records.

On Sept. 17 at 5:01 p.m., Lansdale Police responded to an emergency call at the 7-Eleven, 651 W. Main St. for a fight in progress between two men, police said. While en route, the dispatcher advised police that a man was bleeding from the head and passing in and out of consciousness, according to the criminal complaint.

Upon arrival, police found a man who matched the suspect’s description and recognized Heitz from previous incidents, police said.

Officers found a man suffering from a head wound on the floor in front of the counter, described as semi-conscious and unresponsive, police said.

The victim was taken by VMSC Emergency Medical Services to Grand View Hospital for treatment, police said.

Heitz was detained at 5:05 p.m. on suspicion of assault and asked what he was being detained for, according to the affidavit. “Assault,” the police said. “I didn’t do anything, I rolled the cameras,” Heitz allegedly replied.

A witness told authorities that Heitz and the victim were arguing, Heitz allegedly said, “You’re lucky I don’t know the damn thing,” to which the victim allegedly replied, “Do it.”

Police said Heitz punched the victim in the face, knocking him down and out, hitting his head on the floor. The witness went outside, police said, and asked Heitz, “Why would you do that? You could have killed him.” Heitz, police allege, said, “No one saw her on camera.”

A second witness told police Heitz was in the back of the store playing the skill games, talking about killing someone, according to the complaint. He then asked for help with a skill game machine, but the victim, police allege, told Heitz to wait his turn. Police said Heitz then got in front of the victim and threatened to “take him down,” before striking the victim.

Surveillance footage showed Heitz, authorities say, interacting with a clerk and arguing with the victim, whose hands were behind her back. Heitz, police said, continued to argue before striking the victim with a closed fist.

Police said the victim had no way to defend himself or prevent the fall due to the position of his arms.

Heitz had a previous trespassing warning and was previously arrested for defiant trespassing at 7-Eleven, police said.

He has two other cases running concurrently in Montgomery County Common Pleas Court stemming from two separate drug arrests in July 2024 by Lansdale police, according to court documents.

Heitz has a criminal record dating back to 2012, including convictions for aggravated robbery, drug possession and misdemeanor receiving stolen property and defiant trespass charges.

Formal arraignment in Montgomery County Common Pleas Court is set for December 4 at 9:30 a.m.

All suspects and defendants are innocent until proven guilty. This story was compiled using public court records.
