India shuts down consular camps in Canada, says Canadian authorities fail to provide basic security

Denied even “minimum security protection” by Canadian security agencies, the Indian High Commission in Canada decided to cancel some of the planned consular camps. This comes after attacks by Khalistani mobs in two consular camps in Brampton and Surrey on November 2 and 3.

“Given that the security agencies are conveying their inability to provide minimum security protection to the organizers of the community camps, the consulate has decided to cancel some of the scheduled consular camps,” the Consulate General of India in Toronto said in a post on X.

A Khalistani mob entered the premises of the Hindu Sabha temple in Brampton and attacked the devotees there. The temple was organizing the consular camp and the Peel Police in the province of Ontario failed to protect and act against the Khalistani attackers.

Sikhs for Justice, a banned pro-Khalistani group, said its supporters were protesting the presence of Indian consular officials who had come to assist in administrative services.

The Indian High Commission was providing essential services to Indian-Canadians who were targeted by anti-Indian forces.

The tables, among other things, help in providing life insurance certificates to Canadian-Indians.

One of them, the Vancouver consular camp held at Lakshmi Narayan Mandir in Surrey on November 3, 750 life certificates were issued to members of the Indian diaspora and pensioners.

The denial of “minimum security” by Canadian security agencies comes at a time when Khalistani elements have become hyperactive and issued open threats against people of Indian origin and India-linked organisations. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and his Liberal Party were also criticized for not condemning the attack by the “Khalistani”, who were accused of harboring and appeasing secessionists.

There is also evidence that Khalistani elements have infiltrated Canadian police services.

Canada was forced to suspend a constable, Harinder Sohiafter videos of him participating in a pro-Khalistan protest outside the attacked temple in Brampton went viral.

Sohi, a Peel Regional Police sergeant, was caught on camera holding a Khalistan flag while others at the protest chanted anti-India slogans.
