Two arrested in connection with Palisade shooting | Western Colorado

Two people have been arrested and charged in connection with a shooting in Palisade that occurred in October, the Palisade Police Department announced Tuesday.

Zachary Bayhan, 27, of Delta, and Jamie Hopper, 32, of Hotchkiss, were both arrested in connection with the incident.

According to Palisade Police, one person was shot in the incident, which began near the Golden Gate Gas Station off Interstate 70 at exit 42.

Police responded to the 200 block of West Third Street in Palisade around 11:20 p.m. on Oct. 8 for a report of shots fired.

Police said a 54-year-old woman was shot and crashed her car into the gas station. The woman is expected to recover.

According to the Palisade Police Department, investigators believe Bayhan and Hopper intended to buy drugs from the woman, but did not intend to pay for the drugs.

The transaction was supposed to take place near a storage facility in the 200 block of West Third Street.

During the transaction, according to police, Bayhan is believed to have shot the woman, then stole the car from a 26-year-old man who introduced Bayhan and Hopper to the woman.

Bayhan was arrested in Delta County after a high-speed chase with law enforcement.

Bayhan is charged with attempted second-degree murder, first-degree assault, aggravated robbery, attempted aggravated robbery, possession of a weapon by a prior felon, two counts of menacing and motor vehicle theft.

Hopper is charged with first-degree assault, aggravated robbery, attempted aggravated robbery and two counts of criminal threatening.
