The ACSO deputy collapses while calling for help

Nov. 6 — OTHELLO — A reported burglary resulted in a damaged patrol vehicle and a citation for trespassing, according to a statement from the Adams County Sheriff’s Office.

ACSO deputies responded Saturday to a report of a burglary in progress at approximately 6:45 a.m. in the 2100 block of West Cunningham Road, ACSO wrote. The reporting party awoke to find an unknown male subject inside the home lying on the couch. The resident held the subject at gunpoint until law enforcement arrived, according to the statement.

However, a deputy who responded to the call encountered difficult road conditions at the intersection of Taylor and Bench roads. The deputy’s car hit the guardrail after wet roads made it difficult to stop in time, according to the ACSO release.

No serious injuries were reported. ACSO wrote that the department wants to remind residents to drive safely, especially in wet weather. The Washington State Patrol will investigate the collision to ensure transparency.

While the collision was being dealt with, the Othello Police Department assisted with the break-in until other deputies arrived.

Investigators determined that the suspect, who was intoxicated, thought he was entering a friend’s home and actually rang the doorbell before entering the residence.

The suspect cooperated fully with both the resident and responding officers. At the resident’s request, the subject was issued a trespass notice and given a courtesy ride home by law enforcement.
