Allrounder Andile Phehlukwayo and Corbin Bosch led an impressive fightback for Momentum Multiply Titans against DP World Lions as they bowled out their side for 239-6 at the end of the match on day two of their 4-day CSA series at DP World Wanderers on Wednesday.

The Titans still trail the Lions’ first innings score of 316 by 77 runs, but are in a much better position than they were at the start of the post-tea session thanks to Phehlukwayo and Bosch both delivering half a century shortly before. closing.

Phehlukwayo ended the day unbeaten with 53 off 98 balls (7×4; 1×6) and Bosch with 55 off 76 (10×4), while opening batsman Joshua van Heerden also managed a half-century (50 off 114 balls, 10×4 ).

After tea, the Titans resumed on 103-5 with Van Heerden and Phehlukwayo sharing a 29-run sixth-wicket stand.

Van Heerden managed to reach his fifty but fell almost immediately — caught by Lions captain Dominic Hendricks off the bowling of Tshepo Moreki — to leave them in deep trouble on 132-6.

But that brought Bosch to the spot and together with Phehlukwayo, they set about reviving the Titans’ innings with an impressive unbeaten partnership of 107 runs at the seventh wicket.

Both batsmen rotated the strike well and removed the bad balls as they passed the 150-run and 200-run marks before finishing in a decent position.

They will hope to start in the morning session on day three.

THE PETIT CARNAGE

Earlier, the Titans blew away the Lions in the morning session before reaching lunchtime in a decent position on 31-0, only to explode in a disastrous early afternoon session where they lost five wickets.

In the first over after the lunch break, Neil Brand (26) tried to pick up where he left off by hitting Lutho Sipamla for two boundaries, but the bowler got his revenge when he caught the Titans captain LBW, which caused a crash of four. wickets for 17 runs.

Keegan Petersen (4) was also caught LBW by Sipamla, trying to leave a ball that came back and beat him on the pad.

Dewald Brevis (5) was caught on the head and caught at square leg trying to pull Moreki, while Jhedli van Briesies (4) was caught behind by wicketkeeper Connor Esterhuizen off the bowling of Delano Potgieter, which saw them collapse to 56-4.

Van Heerden, who was watching the carnage at the other end, eventually got a willing partner in Rivaldo Moonsamy (22) and steadied the ship with a 47-run fifth-wicket partnership.

But as they approached the tea break, Codi Yusuf got past Moonsamy’s defense to bowl him, leaving Phehlukwayo and Van Heerden to defend their way to tea.

YUSUF COMES TO THE PARTY FOR LEI

Earlier in the day, the Lions resumed their first innings on 257-7 and would have been targeting a score of 300-plus, but it looked like they might not be able to do so after their last recognized batsman, Esterhuizen (45), he was run out by Van Heerden leaving them on 281-8.

However, batsman no. 9 Yusuf produced a superb lower-order innings, hitting seven fours in 44 off 61 balls as he powered his side past the 300-run mark.

He shared a 13-run stand in the 9th with Moreki (3), before the latter was caught LBW by Tsepo Ndwandwa, and a 22-run stand with Sipamla (6 not out), before Yusuf was the last man eliminated. , edging Brevis to wicketkeeper Moonsamy.

Bosch ended the innings as the Titans’ most successful bowler, picking up 4-71, while Ndwandwa supported him well with 3-73.
