Senior citizens need to be aware of crime trends: Ramagundam CP
Speaking at a cyber crime awareness program for senior citizens at NTPC Millennium Hall in Godavarikhani on Wednesday, he noted that the latest victims of cyber crime were retired employees.

Peddapalli: Commissioner of Police M. Srinivasulu advised senior citizens to be aware of current crime trends and not to disclose their credit/debit card numbers, passwords, OTPs and other personal details to unknown persons.

Participating in a cyber crime awareness program for senior citizens at NTPC millennium hall, Godavarikhani on Wednesday, he said most of the victims cheated by cyber criminals in the recent past were retired employees. Cybercriminals used to target senior citizens as the latter would not be aware of crimes being committed over the internet. In addition, the possible availability of money in their bank accounts has also been the main reason for cybercriminals to target senior citizens.

The criminals were scamming them using different methods like scholarships, home loans, insurance, work from home and other methods. So, senior citizens should be aware of cyber crimes and not disclose personal information to unknown people. Asking them to be wary of WhatsApp video calls, the CP advised them to approach the police by dialing 1930.

They should believe people who promise freebies, gifts and lower-priced drugs, he said.
