Police have charged three teenage girls over an alleged armed robbery after a woman was attacked with scissors in Cairns

Three teenage girls are set to face the Children’s Court after Queensland police accused the group of threatening a woman with scissors, assaulting her and then stealing her car.

The incident happened in Edmonton, south of Cairns, at around 8.30pm on Tuesday when a group of teenagers approached a 40-year-old woman walking to her vehicle in a car park on Louie Piccone Way .

After allegedly threatening the woman with a pair of scissors, the girls assaulted her and demanded her keys. The group then allegedly fled the scene in a stolen Mazda 6, which was later located in Yarrabah.

The 40-year-old woman suffered non-life-threatening lacerations to her arm.

Police have charged the three girls, aged 17, 15 and 13, from Yarrabah, with armed robbery and unlawful use of a motor vehicle.

All three are expected to appear in Cairns Children’s Court on November 6.
