2 Arrested After Posing As Rideshare Drivers, Robbing Patrons Leaving Twist Nightclub In South Beach – WSVN 7News | Miami News, Weather, Sports

MIAMI BEACH, FL. (WSVN) – Police arrested two men after investigators said they posed as ride-hailing drivers and robbed people leaving a South Beach nightclub.

According to detectives, Fevry Gentillon, 43, and Kerbert Jean, 56, targeted intoxicated customers leaving Twist, located along Washington Avenue near 11th Street, just a few feet from police headquarters in Miami Beach.

During Friday’s court appearance, Miami-Dade Circuit Court Judge Mindy S. Glazer read the charges the pair face and denied bond.

“Armed robbery with a firearm or deadly weapon,” Glazer said.

After picking up the unsuspecting victims, police said, the two men robbed the victims at gunpoint.

“One would be in a real taxi, when an intoxicated person would approach the driver, he would refuse service and flag down the other driver who was in an unmarked vehicle,” said Miami Beach Police Officer Christopher Bess. “That driver would then lure the intoxicated victim inside his vehicle, drive to other locations in the city or around Miami-Dade County, rob him at gunpoint, and often use his credit cards at various ATMs.”

Gentillon and Jean were arrested Thursday night. They face multiple charges, including armed robbery, kidnapping and credit card fraud.

“You are a predator. These guys were extremely impatient and dangerous,” Bess said. “They knew exactly what they were doing and they were betraying vulnerable and intoxicated victims.”

This is not the only car service that takes place on the beach and other parts of Miami.

At the beginning of this year, Alejandro Yadir Gongora and Estalin Maurad-Avecillas were accused of working together as bogus ride-sharing drivers, luring women into their cars to rob and assault them.

“He made me think this was my Uber and said, ‘Get in the car.’ Get in the car,’” one victim said.

Gongora and Maurad-Avecillas were arrested and remain behind bars. Both face a list of charges, including sexual assault and kidnapping, in connection with the incidents.

“Six counts of fraudulent use of personal identity,” Glazer said. “Strong armed robbery and grand larceny.”

Now, two more accused crooks are locked up and on the streets.

“They confessed. They told investigators there were other victims out there,” Bess said.

According to officers, several people filed similar reports with investigators, and that’s when they were able to determine that the two were working together to target clubgoers in South Beach’s entertainment district.

Police urge the public to use verified rides on secure apps, always check the license plate and verify the driver’s name and photo before getting into a vehicle.

If you have information about other robberies or are a victim, call Miami Beach Police at 305.673.7900 or Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS. Remember, you can always remain anonymous and may be eligible for a reward of up to $5,000.
