Armed robber arrested – 730 CKDM

An armed robbery has led to more charges after one person allegedly attacked several people in the Sapotaweyak Cree Nation.

On Nov. 2 at approximately 3:25 p.m., Swan River RCMP received reports of a 24-year-old man who had committed these attacks and was walking around with a firearm.

When officers arrived at the community, they learned that the suspect had fled the area after being picked up in a vehicle.

Patrols were made and the suspect vehicle was located at the gas station in Mafeking.

A traffic stop was conducted on this vehicle resulting in the arrest of the 24-year-old man, a 27-year-old man and a 40-year-old woman. The 24-year-old suspect was found lying in the back of the vehicle with a loaded shotgun, a machete and ammunition.

The investigation determined that the 24-year-old assaulted two male victims (ages 22, 20), threatened to harm them and forced them to empty their pockets and turn in their cell phones while who had the gun pointed at them.

Chandler Cook, 24, and Travis Cook, 27, both of the Sapotaweyak Cree Nation, were taken into custody on charges that include two counts of negligent use of a firearm, two counts of of Pointing a Firearm, two counts of Robbery with a Firearm, as well as numerous other firearm related offenses.

The 40-year-old woman, from Brandon, was later released from custody pending a future court appearance in Swan River.

Swan River RCMP are continuing to investigate.
