Aiken’s daughter allegedly threw bleach in her mother’s eyes with the children present

AIKEN, SC (WRDW/WAGT) – A daughter has been accused of throwing bleach in her mother’s eyes while two juveniles were present in Aiken, according to authorities.

Aiken Public Safety Officers say on November 3rd at approximately 1:08 p.m., they responded to the 1300 block of Triple Tree Lane in reference to a disturbance.

Police said they found the victim standing on a chair in the driveway with the help of a neighbor. They said they immediately noticed the victim’s eyes were swollen shut and there was an overwhelming smell of bleach.

Police said the victim’s clothes were stained with bleach and she told them her daughter had assaulted her.

When officers met with the suspect, 25-year-old Kissante Sanders, they said she also had bleach stains all over the front of her shirt.

Sanders said she was trying to wash dishes and claimed her mother started arguing with her and hit her on the arm in an attempt to stop her from using bleach in the dishwater, according to the report.

Sanders said she fought back when her mother threw bleach in her face and claimed it was in self-defense, the report said.

Officers say Sanders also stated that her mother continued to fight her – but did not say what caused her mother’s eyes to be swollen shut. She only repeated that she was fighting in self-defense.

When officers entered the apartment, they said “the odor of bleach was overpowering and overpowering,” according to the report.

Police say they then found two juveniles in the living room and removed them from the danger zone.

Officers say they requested EMS to assess the condition of both the juveniles and the victim.

According to the report, the victim was transported to ARMC for further treatment and the juveniles were left in the care of officers.

The report also included that officers observed bleach on the juveniles’ clothing and smelled bleach.

Because of the potential for serious bodily injury to the victim’s eyes, Sanders was arrested for assault and battery in the first degree, according to officials.

Bleach in the victim’s eyes and the potential for ingestion throughout the incident could cause permanent loss or impairment of her vision and damage to internal organs, officials said.

Sanders was checked by NCIC and wanted by the Blackville Police Department, officials say. She was then transported directly to the Aiken County Detention Center.

Officers returned to speak with the victim after Sanders was taken into custody.

The victim told officers she was in her room talking to her mother on the phone when she left her room and went to the kitchen, the report states.

Officers said she told them Sanders attacked her with bleach and pushed her to the ground. She hit her repeatedly in the face and head area.

She also alleged that Sanders grabbed her hair and they began slamming her face into the floor. The bleach caused Sanders to vomit on the victim, but she continued the attack, according to the report.

Because of the unreasonable risk of harm affecting the safety of both minors, Sanders was also charged with two counts of unlawful conduct toward a child, officials say.
