New information on the incident near Meadowview Elementary

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) – The Eau Claire Police Department has released new information about the incident near Meadowview Elementary School.

Meadowview Elementary School had a “security” on Thursday due to an incident in a nearby neighborhood. The incident happened outside an apartment building on Kappus Drive.

The Eau Claire Communications Center received a report that a man threatened someone with a knife and held him by the throat. The victim ran away, and the suspect, 39-year-old Mohamed Iman, barricaded himself in his house.

Both nearby schools, Meadowview Elementary and South Middle School, were placed on a “secure hold,” where classes continued as normal, but students and staff could not leave the building.

The victim told officers they arrived at the home to pick up their significant other’s dog. Witnesses and the victim reported that Iman forced the victim into a vehicle while holding a knife to their throats, demanding that they take him to their partner. The victim escaped and Iman entered his house.

Officers negotiated with Iman and he surrendered peacefully two hours later. Another man came out of the house and both were arrested.

Iman was arrested for kidnapping, 1st degree reckless endangerment, disorderly conduct, unlawful use of a telephone and resisting an obstructing officer.

Iman was transported to the Eau Claire County Jail and the other man was taken into custody but later released.
