BOULDER, Colorado (KKTV/Gray News ) – A child is safe after fending off a would-be kidnapper in Boulder, Colorado last week.

According to the policethe 11-year-old girl was walking to school on October 28 when a man started following her on a bicycle. He soon caught up with her and grabbed her shoulder.

The quick-thinking girl fought back and escaped.

“The child … grabbed a tree branch and hit the man, causing him to run,” the Boulder Police Department said in a news release late last week about the incident. “The child then ran off to school.”

The girl later told her mother what happened, and the mother reported the incident to the police on October 30.

Since Monday, the suspect remains at large. The child described him as a man wearing black clothing with a mask and “circulating” sunglasses with tinted lenses covering his face. The suspect may have spoken Spanish.
