Former hockey player Janne Puhakka died last month after being shot twice by his former partner, the Norwegian vet Rolf Nordmoat the home they previously shared in Espoo, according to the latest police information on the high-profile case.

Nordmo used a hunting weapon to commit the murder, police added, and Finnish media previously reported that he had a permit.

Puhakka, the first Finnish ice hockey player to publicly disclose his homosexuality, was found dead at semi-detached property in Espoo Sunday, October 13. His body was discovered by a friend who went to the house after Puhakka did not respond to calls and texts.

The police immediately suspected Nordmo of involvement in the murder, and the relationship a few weeks ago was broken. is believed to be the reason.

Investigating officers have since revealed that Nordmo admitted to the killing – which police describe as deliberate and particularly brutal – during his questioning, but Nordmo denied the act was premeditated.

“The suspect denies any planning. I will not comment on any other details,” Detective Inspector Matti Högmanwho is leading the investigation, told Yle.

While the investigation continues, Högman said he is confident the preliminary investigation will be completed well before the end of February, when the deadline for filing charges falls.

The last episode of the reality show aired on Sunday

Puhakka was a contestant on the Finnish version of the widely syndicated competitive reality show traitors (Petolliset in Finnish).

Filming on the series wrapped earlier this year, but broadcaster Nelonen – which owns the rights to the show in Finland – postponed airing the season finale when news of Puhakka’s death broke. The final episode was due to air on Thursday, October 17, just days after Puhakka’s body was found.

Nelonen however announced on Monday this week that the show’s final episode will air on Sunday, November 10 at 9pm. The decision to air the episode was made following consultation with Pukakka’s family, the statement said.

Yle revealed the identity of the suspect in the case as Nordmo appeared alongside Puhakka in several interviews with national and international media.
