BROADCAST TRANSCRIPT:

A man stole laptops and tablets from a Quincy school, and school leaders watched it all unfold through this camera. I’m Ashley Engle, your neighborhood reporter. I learn how this affects the school not only financially but also mentally.

“You feel violated.”

Latanya Moultry is a teacher and parent at North Florida Education Services.

The school this man broke into and stole electronics.

“This is a safe space for kids to come, this is safe for them, they can come and roll.”

Abbie Hurst is the owner of the school.

She says the school specializes in supporting students with special needs.

Along with providing mental health counselling.

“This man has violated us, entered somewhere where he was not welcome; he wasn’t given permission, he broke our things and took some stuff and walked around freely and that’s not okay.”

Hurst says he watched it all unfold last Friday morning through this room.

The man broke the window…

… to enter the school.

He then went through and took 2 tablets and 2 laptops.

Hurst says their front door has a lock to make sure kids don’t leave the building.

The man opened the door and continued to search.

“I don’t want my students or their families to feel like their safe place is no longer safe. That is my main concern.”

As of Monday afternoon, no arrests had been made. As for the equipment, the school plans to replace it.

“He may have stolen our gear, but he didn’t take that warmth, feeling love and protection away from the kids.”
