Colorado polls track Trump-Harris race, Prop 127 and more

Not a lot of polling is done in Colorado and most of it is for the presidential race between Kamala Harris and Donald Trump.

But over the weekend, the University of Colorado’s American Policy Research Lab released its poll Colorado Political Climate Surveyshowing preferences on eight Colorado ballot issues, the presidential race and more.

“The survey consists of interviews with a statewide representative sample of 800 Colorado residents,” the report states. It took place online between October 18 and 30.

Read on to see what that survey, administered by YouGov, revealed. The following questions are weighted for likely voters and have a margin of error of 5.19%.

Amendment H: Creation of a Misdemeanor Judicial Board

“Amendment H proposes to amend the Colorado Constitution to create an independent board to preside over misconduct hearings involving judges and would allow for increased public access to judicial disciplinary proceedings and records. If the election were held today, how would you vote on this amendment?”

To pass, 55% of the votes are needed.

  • Yes: 67%
  • Not: 15%
  • I’m not sure: 21%

Amendment J: Repealing language defining marriage as between one man and one woman

“Amendment J proposes to amend the Colorado Constitution to repeal its language that defines a valid marriage as only a union between a man and a woman. If the election were held today, how would you vote on this amendment?”

To pass, 55% of the votes are needed.

  • Yes: 51%
  • Not: 39%
  • I’m not sure: 10%

Amendment K: setting deadlines for early elections

This question was asked in two different ways. Here is the version of the question where more respondents got a yes or no answer rather than “not sure”.

“Amendment K proposes to amend the Colorado Constitution to set deadlines a week earlier for citizens to submit signatures for initiative and referendum petitions and for judges to file statements of intent to seek another term. It would also require publication of the contents of ballot measures. in local newspapers 30 days earlier than currently required by law If the election were held today, how would you vote on this amendment?”

To pass, 55% of the votes are needed.

  • Not: 25% and 21%, depending on how the question was asked

Amendment 79: Introduction of the right to abortion in the state constitution

“Amendment 79 proposes to amend the Colorado Constitution to make abortion a constitutional right in Colorado and to repeal the existing constitutional ban on state and local government funding for abortion services. If the election were held today, how would you vote on this amendment?”

To pass, 55% of the votes are needed.

  • Yes: 56%
  • Not: 34%
  • I’m not sure: 11%

JJ’s proposal: Using tax revenue from sports betting to fund water projects

This question was asked in two different ways. Here is the version of the question where more respondents answered yes or no rather than “I’m not sure.”

“The JJ proposal would fund state water projects. The funding would come from the state being allowed to keep sports betting tax revenue above the amount previously approved by voters, rather than returning it to casinos and bookies. If the election were held today, how would you vote on this proposal?”

  • Yes: 55% or 67%, depending on how the question was asked
  • Not: 24% or 21%, depending on how the question was asked
  • I’m not sure: 21% or 13%, depending on how the question was asked

Proposition KK: Taxing firearms to fund mental health and safety programs

This question was asked in four different ways. Here is the version of the question where most respondents answered yes or no, rather than “not sure.”

“KK’s proposal would allow the state to fund support services for victims of crime, mental health services for veterans and youth, and school safety programs. Funding would come from a new state tax on firearms sellers equal to 6.5 percent of their sales on firearms, firearms. parts and ammunition – the state would be allowed to keep and spend this revenue on these programs If the election were held today, how would you vote on this proposition?

Proposition 131: Create an all-candidate mayor using elective voting in general elections

“Proposition 131 would create new election processes for certain state and federal offices. After the conditions in state law are met, it would establish primary elections for all candidates for these offices; the top four candidates – regardless of party – would advance to the general. In a general election, voters would then be allowed to rank candidates in order of preference, and votes would be counted in several rounds to determine who wins the election. If the election were held today, how would you vote on this proposal?”

Poll aggregator fivethirtyeight.com also analyzed polls for the presidential election and for the Colorado 8th Congressional District race between Democrat Yadira Caraeveo and Republican Gabe Evans.

In the presidential race on Monday, Nov. 4, it shows Harris up 9.9 points in Colorado with 52.3 percent support and Trump with 42.4 percent.

In the District 8 race, an Oct. 24-26 Emerson College poll shows Caraveo up 2 points at 48 percent and Evans at 46 percent.
