    Officials have evacuated at least 60 homes in Bastrop County because of a growing wildfire.

    The fire started west of downtown Bastrop just before 2 p.m. Sunday and quickly spread to 50 acres, the Bastrop County Office of Emergency Management said.

    The Hudson Fire in Bastrop County grows to 400 acres

    Monday updates

    • As of 6 a.m. Monday, the Hudson fire remained at about 400 acres but was now 20 percent contained, the forest service said.

    Sunday Updates

    • By 3:40 p.m. Sunday, the Hudson Fire in Bastrop County had grown to about 100 acres and was 0 percent contained. The Texas A&M Forest Service distributed X. Planes carrying water were on their way to the scene of the fire, they said.
    • In an update at 4:01 p.m., the forest service said the fire had spread to 200 acres as strong winds pushed the fire into open fields.
    • As of 5:05 p.m., the forest service said the fire had grown to 250 acres but was now 5 percent contained. Higher moisture levels helped reduce crown flows, or fires that spread through the treetops.
    • As of 6:30 p.m., the Hudson fire had grown to about 400 acres with 10 percent containment, the forest service said.

    Evacuations underway as crews work to extinguish the ‘extremely active’ Hudson fire.

    Sixty households near Texas Highway 71 and Alum Creek Road and north of Goiter Trace Road were told to evacuate. Authorities said households on Park Road 1C were evacuated earlier this afternoon.

    Some homes were not directly threatened by the fire, but were evacuated out of an abundance of caution, spokeswoman Keri Hines told the American-Statesman. According to Bastrop Emergency Management, the Smithville Recreation Center at 106 Royston St. will open at 6:30 p.m. for residents displaced by the fire.

    Residents with animals in need of shelter should go to Mayfest Park at 25 American Legion Dr., the City of Bastrop shared on Facebook.

    The fire is moving north toward the northern, non-public portions of Bastrop State Park and nearby rural residences, Hines said. It is not expected to come close to either downtown Bastrop or Smithville, she said.

    Firefighters are expected to continue working to extinguish the “extremely active” fire throughout the night, Bastrop Emergency Management said.

    No deaths or injuries were reported.
