Latest US election: Trump and Harris make final appeals to voters as Democrats see small late surge | News from the USA

Of Jess Sharplive news reporter from Pennsylvania

As Michelle Obama left the stage in Norristown yesterday, she greeted supporters in the crowd, shaking their hands and asking how they were doing.

But as quickly as the supporters arrived, they left. They head to their cars to miss the worst of the traffic.

“Did you feel the passion?” I heard a man say as he walked through the parking lot.

The atmosphere is friendly, people talk to each other, making friends at the event.

Earlier, I spoke with three Kamala Harris supporters who were waiting to be let into the rally.

The three women, Donna, Nina, and Jennese, didn’t know each other until today, but they met in line and spent the time chatting.

Jennese is Puerto Rican and said Donald Trump’s recent comment endorsing comedian Tony Hincliffe was “outrageous.”

“Trump said he would sell Puerto Rico, didn’t help with Hurricane Maria, denied 5,000 people died and threw paper towels at people, the list goes on,” she says.

“Why would anyone take this man seriously? He’s vile.”

Nina says she supports Ms Harris because she is a role model for young girls and boys and “represents all of us”.

“It’s just an inspiration. I’m really excited about it, but I’m nervous about the election itself,” she adds.

“The vile speech that Trump promotes and encourages is offensive to me and an embarrassment to the world.”

Donna says she was born in Pennsylvania and moved from California specifically to make a canvas for Mrs. Harris.

She says it’s the most “scary” election she’s ever seen.

“It’s also a crucial time in our society and in the world and if someone has a really separatist view … the polarization and that’s been going on since 2016, I can’t imagine living through that again,” she says. .

“Actually, I’m playing with the move if he wins. He’s a crook.”
