West Palm Beach is preparing for Trump’s election watch party with tight security

The Palm Beach County Sheriff, West Palm Beach mayor and West Palm Beach police chief held a news conference Sunday to address safety concerns and road closures for former President Donald Trump’s election watch party at the Convention Center of Palm Beach County on Tuesday night. .

West Palm Beach Mayor Keith James announced that the city is committed to maintaining its reputation as one of the safest in Florida, especially with increased attention due to the Trump watch party located at 650 Okeechobee Boulevard in West Palm Beach, Tuesday, November 5.

In anticipation of thousands of visitors on election night, Mayor James assured residents that their safety is a priority.

“The West Palm Beach Police Department is working with the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office, the Secret Service and Homeland Security to ensure a safe environment during the event,” said James. He warned anyone thinking of causing unrest, indicating that they should reconsider their intentions.

Sheriff Ric Bradshaw provided details on traffic and safety measures in place. He confirmed there will be no major road closures and Okeechobee Boulevard will remain open all the way east. However, there will be a lane closure near the convention center.

In the event of increased tension, Bradshaw said they are prepared to take the necessary measures, including having detours ready in case Okeechobee Boulevard needs to be closed.

There will be designated areas for protesters to stand, and officials will not let that spill over into the streets, Bradshaw noted.

They will also have a remote site equipped with essential resources, including two correctional buses, to handle any problems.

The sheriff noted that Trump is expected to arrive between 10:30 and 11 p.m.

Parking will be available in the convention center garage for registered attendees attending the event, but non-attendees will not have access.

West Palm Beach Police Chief Antonio Araujo stressed that while officers will be present at the convention center, normal staffing levels will be maintained throughout the city.

He also noted that the sidewalk on the south side of the convention center will be closed during the event, with agents directing pedestrian traffic.

The chief encouraged attendees to practice good behavior and consider carpooling at the event.
