Woman destroys $1,000 worth of strangers’ Halloween decorations, officials say

TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG/Gray News ) – An Ohio woman was caught on camera punching and tearing a Halloween display in front of a home.

“I don’t know what it was. There has been speculation, but I hope he gets the treatments he needs,” said homeowner Shannon Zeller.

On Oct. 7, around 9 a.m., a woman went on a rampage outside the Zeller family’s home, throwing and destroying their Halloween decorations. Neighbors reported it lasted more than half an hour.

“They said someone was in our yard destroying all our decorations,” Zeller said.

Zellers estimates the woman caused about $1,000 in damage. However, some items, they said, were priceless.

She said they made some of the decorations with their children and carried memories of their son who died last year in a motorcycle accident.

“I cried like a baby, honestly. I cried like a baby and felt bad because of the memories that are attached to some of the items that he tore,” Zeller said.

Toledo police arrested Christina Horvath, 48, in connection with the destruction of the Zeller family display. The Zellers reported that they never met Horvath again.

She faces criminal damage and theft charges because the video also shows her placing various items from the property in her vehicle.

She was previously booked into the Lucas County Jail two weeks before the incident for allegedly throwing a rock through the windshield of a vehicle.

Meanwhile, Zellers is playing at a loss.

They wrote “She Came in Like A Wreckin’ Ball” on a sign next to a skeleton riding a wrecking ball, emulating Miley Cyrus’ music video.

“And I said, ‘Well, what can I do to leave it the way it is and make it fun and kind of lighten it up?’ And I hope everyone else can see that we’re just making light of a sad situation,” Zeller said.
