Rams’ Byron Young fined for uncalled tackle on Sam Darnold

He was somehow called on the field, but the NFL thought he deserved a fine.

Los Angeles Rams linebacker Byron Young has been fined $7,014.19 for lunging at Vikings quarterback Sam Darnold in the closing minutes of the Minnesota game. 30-20 loss to the Rams on October 17 at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California. Facial mask remained uncalled on the field, resulting in a sack and a safety that ended any hope of a late Viking comeback.

In the postgame report, official Tra Blake claimed none of the officials had the vision of the play despite it seeming like an obvious call saying “couldn’t see it”. The play was not reviewable and the Rams punted it after the safety.

Two Vikings were also fined for their actions during the Rams game: linebacker Ivan Pace Jr. and running back Aaron Jones. Pace was fined $5,120 for a facemask on Rams running back Kyren Williams in the first quarter. The officials saw it and called the penalty, which came on the Rams’ first play. They scored to tie the game 7-7.

Jones was fined $11,817 for a low block during the Vikings’ home opener. Jones was not called for a penalty on the play, which led to a 5-yard touchdown pass from Darnold to Josh Oliver for the game’s opening points.

The loss to the Rams was the Vikings’ second in a row and they will look to get back on track when they host the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday night at 7:20pm at US Bank Stadium in Minneapolis.
