Details are limited; the school says someone appeared to have entered the playground after staff left for the day. Phoenix police say the rabbits were killed while in a cage in their fenced yard between Thursday night and Friday morning.

The kindergarten said in a Facebook post that its top priority is safety and that for now all doors, including those to and from the playground, will remain locked.

Police say there are currently no suspects and an investigation is ongoing.
