Jurassic World: Chaos Theory EP Scott Kreamer walks me through how Jurassic World Dominion inspired Season 2’s jaw-dropping character reveal

Warning: SPOILERS for Jurassic World: Chaos theory Season 2 is on the way. If you haven’t been following the latest adventures of the five Nublar, you’ve been warned.

When you throw in a character name like “The Broker,” any series that’s a part of TV schedule 2024, or any series of shows, for that matter, will perk up the ears. But when you use that name to invoke a mystery in something like Jurassic World: Chaos Theoryit becomes an opportunity in a fan’s mind. With such a rich array of antagonists in Jurassic Park Universethat imposing name could have belonged to anyone.

Sure enough, this season made my mouth water as we revealed who this mysterious figure of power happened to be. Which meant that when I sat down with Chaos theory EP Scott Kreamer, it was time to ask him to explain how Jurassic World Dominion inspired this particular choice. And yes, the person we’re about to discuss is from that very movie, which only makes this season’s cliffhanger all the more interesting.

While we were talking Jurassic World: Chaos Theory Season 2 story developmentI took some of my allotted time to speak with Kreamer during press day to talk about how the overall story for the first two seasons came about. In just a few months, these 20 episodes of Chaos theory they are quite tightly woven together in the fabric Jurassic saga.

As it turns out, the genesis of some of the Chaos theory the more interesting plot points in season 2 came from one of the perks of working on a Jurassic World design. With that in mind, here’s what Scott Kreamer told CinemaBlend early on Jurassic World Dominion screening experience and how it helped:

When we broke Season One, we were definitely looking ahead … (is) when we got to see some early screenings of (Jurassic World) Dominion before it was released. And then we started with the events and some of the characters in them. I was definitely keeping everything in mind. They weren’t written in one piece, but obviously we knew where we were ending Season One, and it was fun to keep the train going in Season Two.

Jurassic World: Chaos Theory Season 1 ends We saw Brooklynn (Kiersten Kelly) revealed as alive and still fighting the good fight to free the dinosaurs. This search took her to some very interesting places in Season 2, especially when she ends up finding “The Broker” in Dubai. Revealing to the world that this shadowy figure was actually Soyona Santos (Dichen Lachman) from Jurassic World Dominionthe threads between this DreamWorks Animation midquel and the trilogy’s 2022 capper have begun to tie even tighter.

That much was present in my conversation with Scott Kreamer, as his mention of director Colin Trevorrow’s great send-off allowed me to ask what inspired him to bring Soyona into the Chaos theory mix. Understanding that story, as he had previously hinted, Kreamer continued to describe it Of the Dominion influence as follows:

I was halfway through answering the question when I realized we were on the non-spoilery side. So yes, it was the time of COVID, we were in our masks and we’re in a screening room at Universal. And Bethany Armstrong Johnson, our head writer, and I kind of got together after the screening, and it was like, “We’ve got to get that character into the show.” It was such an intriguing character, such a great performance. And luckily we had Colin’s Blessing, then when they reached out and Dichen agreed to do the Voice. She is such a wonderful actress and a better person than she is an actress. It’s very interesting and I think it elevates everything.

Having spoken with Dichen Lachman in the past, I can definitely tell you that she is a fan of Jurassic Park Universe. So hearing Scott Kreamer call her a better person than a mean actor further reinforced the experience I had personally speaking with United Planet of the Apes actor. With that on the table, I was able to dig more into how Soyona Santos was expanded from her Jurassic World Dominion appearance in the present great evil of Chaos theory.

How Jurassic World: Chaos Theory Expanded Dichen Lachman’s Sonoya Santos

For all who have seen Jurassic World Dominionthe character of Sonoya Santos could have revealed herself as a simple smuggler who can always deliver for a price. But there’s a lot about the character that hasn’t been seen on screen yet. Thanks to the conversation I had with Scott Kreamer, it reminded me of when I learned these facts for myself.

Speaking to Dichen Lachman in 2022 on his behalf Jurassic World Dominion launch home entertainment, we learned how much from Soyona Santos that Altered carbon the vet came up with her own process. Here’s some of Sonoya’s backstory, as told by CinemaBlend in 2022:

I hadn’t had a chance to read the script at the time, but I started thinking how can I really ground this character? So I wrote this elaborate story about how she grew up in Siberia… and her mom ended up smuggling dinosaur bones, which is actually a thing. … She was extremely wealthy, boarding school educated, but she came from this interesting place. … What I wrote, you could make a movie yourself.

Reading back also makes Soyona’s introduction in Season 2 Episode 5 – “Troubled Waters” all the more exciting, as it references a dig her mother made on her travels! Seeing Dichen Lachman’s morally gray character revealed as “The Broker” made the fan in me smile, especially with such a juicy appeal to deep lore. This kind of decision showed an impressive degree of tying this animated saga into the live-action adventures without making much sense about it.

This is as good a time as any to go back to my time with Scott Kreamer, as I was curious if his early access to the great Jurassic World The end of the trilogy would have given him a chance to help fine-tune Soyona’s film presence. Since the specific Chaos theory Season 1 notes what Colin Trevorrow shared about Nublar Six’s path to growth proved that the degree of confidence between EPs in the series, there could have been room for some changes here and there.

But as you’ll read from Scott Kreamer’s continuing remarks, that wasn’t a concern at all. citing Jurassic World Dominion own development process, Scott Kreamer highlighted the following particularities when it came to expanding Soyona Santos for Chaos theory Season 2:

God, no. They were in post-production when we got involved. But, you know, what was great is that this is the character that Colin created, (that) he and Dichen created, with her writing and acting. So we felt very secure knowing that we had control over the character. And even some of our story that went into the show was based on meetings the two of them had together when they were discussing a story. So that was cool. But when we wanted to expand it, whether she’s a painter or whatever we expanded from the original, Colin and Dichen, and everyone else just jumped right in… it just flowed really smoothly.

Although it is not yet known whether or not Jurassic World: Chaos Theory will be renewed for season 3, the reintroduction of Soyona Santos is a good step for the future of this series. As the plot is meant to show events set months in advance Jurassic World Dominion begins, whatever twists and turns happen next could rely heavily on what was said but not shown. This is especially true for Dichen Lachman’s character, as there is an entire event mentioned in the 2022 film that we have yet to see come to life.

For now, we’ll just have to wait and see if the dino-fueled mayhem returns to push the story along.
