Denton County man jailed for killing woman whose body was found outside her home

A Denton County man is accused of killing a relative whose body was found under a pile of dirt outside their home, according to police and news reports.

Police have arrested 24-year-old Adrian Joe Padilla in connection with the killing of 71-year-old Mary Inez Jacinto. He was booked into the Denton County Jail on charges of capital murder and tampering or fabricating evidence with intent to harm a human corpse, online records show.

Padilla remained in the Denton County Jail on Saturday. online records show. It is unclear if he has an attorney.

Aubrey police said in a news release that officers were dispatched just before 8 p.m. Monday to a social assistance facility at a home in the 11100 block of Canyon Oak Street in the Silverado community.

Officers were told the homeowner, Jacinto, had not returned calls and texts from her family, police said. When officers arrived, there was no answer at the front door.

Police said officers then found Padilla, who lived at the home, in the backyard and he was taken into custody. Officers also found Jacinto’s body, according to the release.

Police did not say in the news release how Jacinto is believed to have died, nor did they provide additional information about the evidence that may have led to Padilla’s arrest.

Police said officers searched the home and found a shovel in a bedroom with fresh dirt and bottles of bleach, according to a report from KDFW-TV(Fox 4). Detectives found several large kitchen knives with blood on them in a sink. Jacinto’s body was found with stab wounds, wrapped in blankets under a pile of dirt, according to the report.

Padilla and Jacinto were related, according to the report.
