Two cases of assault in Faridabad due to crackers, elderly man killed in one

Two incidents of violence over firecrackers bursting on Diwali were reported from Faridabad in Haryana on Thursday.

A family was allegedly attacked by their neighbors, who belonged to a minority community, for bursting firecrackers on Diwali in Haryana. In another incident in Faridabad, an elderly man was allegedly beaten to death while objecting to people bursting firecrackers.

An elderly man was allegedly beaten to death in Faridabad’s Sector 18 as he objected to people bursting firecrackers, news agency PTI reported.

A file was drawn up based on a complaint by the victim’s son.

The complainant, Vinod, said that three men, Raju, Dheeraj and Nandu, were bursting firecrackers outside the victim’s residence in Sector 18 Housing Board Colony on Thursday evening.

The victim objected, an argument broke out between them, after which Vinod calmed down the situation.

However, the three accused allegedly returned and started bursting firecrackers in front of their house at around 1 am again. When the victim resisted again, he was allegedly beaten by them, as a result of which he died on the spot.

A search is on for the accused, the police said.

Meanwhile, in another incident, a family was assaulted by their neighbors in Faridabad’s Subhash Colony on Thursday evening and the Hindu family alleged that they were assaulted by their neighbors while their child was breaking crackers. The neighbors also allegedly sexually assaulted the boy’s sister, they said.

The incident was captured on CCTV, which shows neighbors fighting with the family and then assaulting them. A man can be seen throwing stones at their house as well.

The victim’s family filed a complaint with the police, where they alleged that their neighbors first threatened the child for breaking crackers. When the boy’s mother went to their neighbor’s house to complain, they started attacking her.

The neighbors allegedly also assaulted the child’s father with sticks and then threw stones at their house. They also assaulted the boy’s sister, the complaint states.

Following this incident, the family put their house up for sale and claimed that they could not celebrate any festival in the region.

A case has been registered and further investigations are on, police said.
