The woman faces multiple charges after the child’s death, North Charleston police said

NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) – A judge has set bond for a woman facing six criminal charges in North Charleston following the death of a baby boy.

Tashanta Morris, 33, is charged with six counts of unlawful conduct toward a child, but has not been charged in the child’s death itself, police said.

A judge set bail at $15,000 per charge, for a total of $90,000, according to jail records.

Police responded to a fire station in response to a call about an unresponsive child early Thursday morning. When police arrived, they found the first responders trying to save the child’s life.

But authorities say he was later pronounced dead at an area hospital.

An incident report states that officers and medical personnel observed “severe bruising to the face and head area, lacerations and injuries consistent with bite marks” on the boy’s body.

North Charleston police spokesman Harve Jacobs said the death remains under investigation by detectives and the Charleston County Coroner’s Office.

Morris has since posted bond and been released from the Al Cannon Detention Center.
