Billy Corgan’s mother-in-law was injured after a car plowed into the singer’s teahouse near Chicago.

The musician shared a statement on behalf of his wife, Chloe Mendel, via Instagram on Wednesday. The Smashing Pumpkins The singer’s 8-year-old son was in the store, but was not injured in the accident.

“This afternoon at Madame ZuZu’s, a car (under circumstances that remain under investigation), drove over the curb and into Madame ZuZu’s, crashed through the window and unfortunately injured one person – the mother my Jenny; who spent the day and dined with my son Augustus”.

“Luckily he was able to jump out of the way and was not injured. Our family is grateful for the quick assistance provided by Highland Park and Deerfield first responders.”

The teahouse will remain closed until further notice, according to the statement.

Corgan, 57, did not release any details about his mother-in-law’s condition after the accident.

The city of Highland Park, Illinois, shared an update on the crash on Facebook.

“Two people, the driver of the vehicle and a patron of the restaurant, were transported for treatment. The preliminary investigation indicates that the incident was accidental. No additional information is available at this time.”

Corgan shares his son Augustus with Mendel. The couple began dating in 2012 and married in September 2023. Corgan and Mendel are also parents to a daughter, Philomena Clementine.
