In November, rain is expected on most days for the next 2 weeks, forecasters say

SINGAPORE – American rock band Guns N’ Roses may have sung about cold November rain, but it’s going to be hot and heavy showers here for the next two weeks.

Moderate to heavy rain is expected in parts of the island in the afternoon on most days during this period, with showers possibly extending into the night on several days, the Meteorological Service of Singapore (MSS) said in a weather advisory on November 1.

This is due to the prevailing inter-monsoon conditions – characterized by light and variable winds and higher lightning activity – here and in the surrounding region.

Also, Sumatra storms may bring widespread showers with gusty winds for a morning or two. Rainfall totals for the first two weeks of November are forecast to be above average across most parts of the island.

Daily maximum temperatures are likely to range between 32 and 34 degrees C on most days and may slightly exceed 34 degrees C on a few days, the MSS said.

This contrasts with Singapore’s weather over the past two weeks, which has been warmer and drier than the past two weeks.

Daily maximum temperatures in the last two weeks of October soared above 34C on most days, with the highest recorded at 35.6C at Paya Lebar on 21 October.

Below average rainfall was recorded during this period, with brief thundery showers seen over parts of the island in the late morning and afternoon on some days. But moderate to heavy rain fell over northern and western Singapore on 16 October.
