TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) – Topeka Police are asking people to avoid the area of ​​SW Washburn Ave. between 24th St. and Shunga Dr. while investigating a shooting incident in the area.

TPD responded to an accident investigation near the Stormont Vail Event Center on Thursday, October 31, 2024 at approximately 12:00 pm, according to a news release.

During the investigation, one person from the crash was located in the 1500 BLK of SW Shunga Dr. While officers continued to investigate, shots were fired from inside a residence.

No officers were injured during the shooting.

Citizens are still asked to avoid the area while officers and detectives are on the scene. The investigation remains ongoing.
