Police suspend annual Zaar festival in Bauchi

The Bauchi State Police Command has announced the suspension of the annual Zaar festival originally scheduled for Saturday, November 2, 2024.

A statement on Thursday by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Ahmed Wakil, revealed that the decision was based on a restraining order issued by a High Court on October 30, 2024.

“Following the directive of the High Court, the Bauchi State Police Command informs the public that the 2024 Zaar Festival scheduled for November 2 has been suspended,” the order read.

SP Wakil noted that previous Zaar Festival events have been marred by conflict, including attacks, property damage and public order disturbances.

“As such, the organizers and participants of the festival are prohibited from holding any related processions in Tafawa Balewa and Bogoro local government areas or elsewhere until a final court decision is made,” he added.

SP Wakil also noted that the Commissioner of Police, CP Auwal Mohammed has announced measures to ensure safety and harmony within the community across the state.
