Man charged in Columbus hit-and-run that killed pedestrian

COLUMBUS, Ga. (WTVM) – A man is facing multiple charges after a hit-and-run crash that later claimed the life of a pedestrian.

Adonis Cooley, 24, was arrested Monday, Columbus police said Wednesday afternoon. He faces charges of first-degree homicide with a vehicle, hit-and-run and other undisclosed traffic-related charges.

According to police, the incident happened around 1:30 a.m. in the area of ​​Victory Drive and near Benning Road. Officials said the victim, Anthony Hughley, was struck by a vehicle that left the scene. He was pronounced dead at a local hospital.

Columbus police continue to investigate the case.
