Des Moines woman sentenced to prison after long botched manhunt

DES MOINES, Iowa — A Des Moines woman was arrested after police say she led multiple law enforcement agencies on a long chase through the metro in a stolen car early Thursday morning.

Nicole Ruby, 39, is charged with eluding, second-degree larceny, tampering with official records, reckless driving, possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia and driving with a suspended license.

Guilty verdict in Fort Dodge teen’s slaying

Sgt. Paul Parizek of the Des Moines Police Department said the incident began when patrol officers attempted to pull over a stolen Lincoln MKZ sedan near MLK, Jr. Parkway and Atkins Street around 2:40 a.m. The driver, Ruby, sped away from the officers.

The pursuit traveled through the west side of Des Moines and Sgt. Parizek said she was pulled over several times because Ruby was driving the wrong way on both Polk Blvd. and I-235. Officers re-engaged in pursuit when circumstances were appropriate.

Sgt. Parizek said the pursuit moved into the western suburbs and several agencies in the metro area assisted. Stop sticks and a PIT maneuver helped end the pursuit and Ruby was taken into custody around 3:12 a.m. at E. 1st Street and NE Grimes Boulevard.

Ruby was booked into the Polk County Jail just before 6:00 am
