If you watch Kamala Harris and Donald Trump’s rallies — and I’ve watched quite a few in recent weeks — it can start to feel like you’re watching a band doing a greatest hits tour.

In their separate appearances Wednesday night in Wisconsin, both sides played to what they believe to be their strengths and disparaged the other side.

Among Donald Trump’s promises were: “rapid defeat of inflation”; “drill baby drill”, his shorthand for expanding fossil fuel production in the US; “massive tax cuts” for workers and small businesses; crack down on illegal immigration.

“Kamala, you’re fired,” he said at one point, using his catchphrase from reality show The Apprentice.

Kamala Harris focused on abortion rights and reaching beyond Democrats, saying she was committed to “seeking common sense solutions to the challenges you face,” adding, “I’m not looking to score political points.”

She also took a dig at Donald Trump: “I don’t think people who disagree with me are the enemy. He wants to put them in jail. I will give them a place at my table.”

There is little that either side seems to agree on, but both know that getting their vote — especially in the seven states that will decide the outcome — is crucial.

These states are where their efforts will be focused and the reason they were both in Wisconsin. Expect to see them there again before voting closes on November 5th.
