Nitin Sawhney will perform a piece inspired by the heart attack in the Hallé show

An award-winning songwriter is set to perform a one-off show which will include a piece of music he says was inspired by his heart attack.

Producer, DJ and songwriter Nitin Sawhney will perform the original composition when his band lines up with Manchester’s City Hallé Orchestra in December.

The show was originally canceled after he suffered a heart attack in May and then spent time recovering from surgery.

Sawhney, who won a Mercury Prize in 1999 for his electronic album Beyond Skin, said the composition “captures the feeling and internal psychology of having a heart attack”.

Sawhney has worked with the likes of Paul McCartney, Sting, Annie Lennox, releasing over 20 albums over a genre-defying career.

The Rochester-born musician’s collaboration with Hallé will take place at Bridgewater Hall on December 5.

He said the orchestra was “one of his favorites” and that he was looking forward to performing the original composition with them.

He said: “I focus musically on what was going on around me at the time in terms of how I was treated medically.

“But also the consequences of it in relation to my mental and emotional state.”
