The British royal family may have a reputation for family turmoil over the years, but the Norwegians look set to give them a run for their money in 2024. King Harald’s daughter, Princess Märtha Louise, has made plenty of headlines for marrying a Hollywood shaman and to retire from royal duties in September. But Märtha Louise’s brother, Crown Prince Haakon and his elegant wife, Crown Princess Mette-Marit— the future king and queen of Norway — are dealing with both an arrest and a burglary incident with the princess’ son from a previous relationship.

Marius Borg Høiby was born to Mette-Marit and convicted criminal Morten Borg in 1997, and the circumstances of Borg Høiby’s birth caused scandal when the single mother later became involved with the future king of Norway.

Over the years, Crown Princess Mette-Marit has become a beloved member of the royal family, going on to welcome daughter Princess Ingrid Alexandra (who will one day become queen), and son of Prince Sverre Magnus. Borg Høiby doesn’t often join his mother and stepfamily for official events, and after his recent legal troubles, those appearances may become even rarer.

The 27-year-old was arrested in August for allegedly assaulting his girlfriend, according to Independentand “could be jailed for up to a year as he faces charges of assault and criminal damage.” He was arrested for a second time in September after allegedly breaching a restraining order, and the Crown Princess has now been summoned for questioning in the case, according to the Norwegian publication. Aftenposten.

But Borg Høiby’s troubles continue, and accordingly Aftenpostenhe is now blocked from accessing his mother and stepfather’s house. Mette-Marit’s son – who lives in a separate house on the royal couple’s private estate “on the edge of the forest” – allegedly hosted a wild party which was raided by a biker gang and led to a break-in , per Se og Hør.

The Norwegian station reported that during the party, “goods of both high crown value and affection value for the crown prince’s family” were taken, and in a video obtained by the publication, a “person rides around singing on a Segway ” through the royal house. Borg Høiby was also seen “driving impaired and wrecking a car on the Skaugum estate”.

As for the Crown Princess, who suffers from a serious lung disease called pulmonary fibrosis, she has been placed on medical leave amid her son’s legal troubles. The palace announced that she would be taking a break from royal duties, and the statement read: “Previous experience has shown that medication can lead to side effects that may have consequences for the Crown Princess’ official schedule.”
