I’ve watched every episode of Hell’s Kitchen and Gordon Ramsay just made me cry for the first time

So, I love Gordon Ramsaybut my appreciation for him has developed in recent years.

During the pandemic, I mainly spent my time applying to new places and tracking myself food shows that made me hungry. In the end, that led me to everything Gordon Ramsay’s cooking shows, and though there are many that I love—such as his last Next Level Chef, or a classic like MasterChef—there is one show that has truly captured my heart and this is it Hell’s Kitchen.

The Americanized version exploded and has been running for twenty-four seasons. In those heady days, I watched every season of Hell’s Kitchen until now and I’ve been up to date with it every year since. It has made me laugh, stress, and smile so often it’s hard to count.

But for the first time, Hell’s Kitchen it made me cry – or rather, Gordon Ramsay did, and I have to talk about it.

Let me start by saying that I’ve always loved Hell’s Kitchen

As I said in the introduction, Hell’s Kitchen has been my favorite Ramsay show for a while, and for good reason.

Not just because it has great competition. I love how the show turned out so well. There are a lot of competition shows or reality shows that are the exact same thing over and over again, or evolve in the wrong way.

For example, Love is blind evolved in some good ways, but Love is blind Season 7 was a mess and less pleasant. The same goes for competition shows like The voice or American Idol; they’ve changed the judges and specific aspects of the show over the years, but maybe not always for the better.

Hell’s Kitchen, changed things up all the time, really in the last few seasons. From this season, which focuses primarily on executive chefs, to other seasons that focus on the young ones, to those that are all about the All-Stars, it’s constantly changing, and I love that.

The show itself makes me stressed – in a fun way

Apart from the evolution of the show, Hell’s Kitchen it really makes me feel stressed – but in a good, fun way, which is why it’s such good TV.

Think of one of the the best hulu shows: Bear. This is the most stressful original series on TV, but you can’t help but watch it because there is entertainment in stress. It entices you, just like Hell’s Kitchen do what. Will Ramsay yell at the contestants? Is he going to throw a random salmon at the wall? Or will everything be fine?

This kind of suspense and stress amuses me so much and I feel dizzy half the time.

But Gordon Ramsay had a very emotional moment last season – and it made me cry for the first time

For the first time ever…instead of making me stressed or laughing or whatever, Gordon Ramsay made me cry during Hell’s Kitchen — in a good way.

Let me paint the scene. It is the fifth episode of season 23, and one of the contestants, Egypt, a feaster, is so close to withdraw from the competition. Why? Two reasons – The Blue Team (his team) basically teamed up against him and he’s up against something severe homesickness, which anyone can relate to.

These people are away from their families for weeks at a time and he misses his family and certainly his daughter. Anyone can understand that. When he tells Ramsay, I almost expected him to let him go, considering we’ve lost a lot of contestants already this season. But Ramsay pulls him aside.

Ramsay actually has a heart-to-heart with Egypt away from the other contestants, where he admits he’s had moments like this too – especially since at the time of filming, Ramsay’s wife had just given birth to a newborn and he couldn’t. don’t be there with her. She kills him in, but he pushes through. He then goes on to tell Egypt that there’s a reason he kept him around despite his team messing with him and being because Ramsay believes in him and sees something his team doesn’t.

The two share a hug, with Ramsay helping him regain his confidence and exit back into the kitchen. And that scene… it just hit me. So hard. I think it’s because while we’ve seen Ramsay’s softer side in many of his other shows, we don’t see that in this series.

This is a serious show and always has been. It’s about who will run Ramsay’s next restaurant, and that’s a big deal. But seeing this understanding side of him, really connecting with one of the chefs – it made me cry pretty hard because it just makes me realize that even the most skilled and decorated people struggle with things as simple as such as homesickness. It’s a moment that makes you connect with Ramsay even more, and I appreciate that.

I hope we get to see that side of him more in Hell’s Kitchen

I know it’s rare for us to get this side of Ramsay again. This show rarely tends to lean into that. But I don’t know – I’d really like to. The series will continue to air as part of the TV schedule 2024and I really think people seeing Ramsay connecting more with his competitors is a big deal.

Although it’s obvious that Gordon Ramsay isn’t always the big bad chef, because who can be? – it is nice to see this change of heart. And I hope it’s something we see a lot more of in the future.

For now, I’ll enjoy my little one YouTube cooking channels while I wait for the next episode to drop — and try to resist the urge to make Beef Wellington again.
