BC man accused of shoplifting now faces robbery and weapons charges

The alleged theft incidents took place in Richmond in Vancouver, while the more serious charges are based in Vancouver alone.

A Vancouver man accused of shoplifting is back behind bars as he now faces robbery and weapons charges.

Vancouver Provincial Court Judge Joseph GalaČ›i adjourned Samir Aissani’s charges to November 13 so the man could speak with lawyer Guillaume Garih.

The charges before the court date back to a July 9 incident in which Aissani allegedly stole $5,000 worth of merchandise from a Richmond superstore.

Aissani is also charged with theft under $5,000 in connection with an Aug. 14 incident at Holt Renfrew in Vancouver.

Then there’s another charge of theft under $5,000 in connection with an Aug. 19 incident at Richmond Shoppers Drug Mart.

Aissani was granted bail on those charges and was not in custody.

He now faces four other charges that are alleged to have taken place on October 21.

He is charged with robbery of a man, carrying an imitation weapon for dangerous purposes or to commit a felony, assault while in possession of a weapon and using an imitation firearm while attempting to flee from police after a robbery was committed.

Crown prosecutor Jennifer Carmichael told Galati that she spoke with Garih and agreed to a one-week adjournment to discuss various matters.

The case returns to court on November 5.
