AMERICAN FORK, Utah (ABC4) — An American Fork woman was arrested late last week and faces multiple charges after allegedly trying to steal her mother’s car.

Kimberly Dawn Mitani, 36, was arrested Thursday night, according to a Utah County affidavit. Several of the charges he faces have domestic violence enhancements, the documents state.

Mitani faces charges of assault, a class B misdemeanor; damaging or disrupting a communication device, a class B misdemeanor; disorderly conduct after being asked to cease, a class C misdemeanor; interfering with a peace officer, a class B felony; intoxication, a class C misdemeanor; damage/destruction of property — total loss between $500 and $1,499, Class A misdemeanor; robbery, second degree felony; theft – firearm or operable motor vehicle, a felony of the third degree.

The probable cause statement said the complainant, later identified as Mitani’s mother, said her daughter had asked for a ride. After picking Mitani up, the victim told police that Mitani started pulling the steering wheel.

Her mother told police that Mitani was trying to steal the car. The mother stated that she stopped the vehicle because she was afraid she would have an accident or be seriously injured because Mitani was pushing her and yelling at her.

Officers ordered Mitani out of the vehicle when they found her, which she did not comply with. She allegedly entered the center console and then the rear passenger compartment of the vehicle. Police say they ordered Mitani to stop.

According to police, Mitani kept reaching into different areas of the vehicle and appeared to be looking for something. She also locked the vehicle door, and police say they observed a pocket knife in Mitani’s possession.

Mitani also allegedly damaged the windshield by kicking it, causing it to crack. Police said he broke it after an argument with her father. Police then took her to a hospital to be evaluated and breathalyzed, after which police said she blew a 0.191 — nearly four times the the legal blood alcohol content limit in Utah.

Mitani was arrested and booked into the Utah County Jail on the aforementioned charges.

Allegations are just allegations. All persons arrested are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
