The tragic incident, which took place on Monday, October 28, at around 2 p.m., left the village in disbelief.

Eyewitnesses say Geoffrey Ariwa, the 37-year-old suspect, stormed his father’s compound and demanded a private conversation with him before launching the fatal attack.

“The father was taking care of the animals in the compound before his son called him for a chat,” said Maurice Otieno, an eyewitness.

Otieno said that shortly after the two began talking, a heated altercation ensued that quickly turned violent.

“They had an altercation and before we paid much attention, we heard screams only to find that he was attacking his father and he left as we approached them,” Otieno added.

Why did Geoffrey attack his father

A relative of the deceased, who was also present, revealed that Geoffrey and his father had long-standing problems with a debt of KSh 200,000.

According to the relative, Geoffrey had borrowed the money several years ago, crediting it to his sister, and he was pressuring his father to pay it back.

Rongo OCPD Shalim Fundi confirmed the incident, saying the father, identified as Agunga Ariwa, was found with serious injuries and rushed to hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival at the Rongo Sub-County Hospital.

“We received a report of an assault of a father by his 37-year-old son, the suspect fled the scene upon our arrival, leaving his father Agunga Ariwa half dead,” Fundi said.

The police chief described the victim’s injuries, noting deep cuts to his neck, chin, head and shoulder.

The body has since been transferred to Rosewood Hospital Mortuary for post-mortem as police have launched a manhunt for the suspect, who remains at large.

A man kills the mother for ugali

In a separate incident, 68-year-old Magdalene Wangechi she was killed by her sonPatrick Irungu, 36, in Gaturo Village, Murang’a County.

Family members said Wangechi prepared bananas but her son asked to be served with a plate of ugali.
