New Chrome alert from Indian government targets desktop users

Google Chrome continues to face new security threats and now a major warning alert has been issued by the Indian government this month. The latest Chrome security warning on October 28 comes via the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) with a high severity rating, which should worry millions of Chrome users in the country.

Chrome Security Alert: What’s the Problem

The CERT-In bulletin explains: “these vulnerabilities exist in Google Chrome due to inadequate implementation in Extensions and Type Confusion in V8. A remote attacker could exploit these vulnerabilities by convincing a victim to visit a specially crafted web page.”

These issues were reported earlier this year, and it appears that Google is still struggling to fix the breaches and protect it from hackers. Even then, any successful exploitation of these vulnerabilities could allow a remote attacker to execute arbitrary code on the targeted system, the agency said.

To explain in simple words, if the hacker manages to bypass the system security and exploit these issues, he can make the victim visit a malicious website that can be very dangerous.

What should Chrome users do about this new alert? First, if you have Chrome on Windows, macOS, or a Linux machine, you need to make sure that these versions of the browser are not running on your system:

– Google Chrome versions prior to 130.0.6723.69/.70 for Windows and Mac

– Google Chrome versions prior to 130.0.6723.69 for Linux

Chrome Security Warning: How to update version

To be safe, users should download the latest available software update for Google Chrome on Windows, macOS, and Linux. You can do this by going to the three-dot menu in Chrome – Settings – About – Update Chrome. Google has listed the security fixes that come with the stable channel update.
