Hasnat, Sarjis withdraw the mandate to suspend the activity of AL, other 10 parties

Sarjis Alam, Hasnat Abdullah and Hasibul Islam – the coordinators of the Students’ Anti-Discrimination Movement – have decided not to pursue the mandate to seek court directives to prevent 11 parties, including the Awami League, from carrying out political activities.

At the same time, it was announced that they will not continue with another letter questioning the legitimacy of the last three parliamentary elections (10, 11 and 12).

“The petitioners no longer wish to proceed with the two documents. After the notification to the court, they were removed from the program,” said Ahsanul Karim, the petitioners’ lawyer.

The two mandates were listed at numbers 208 and 209 on the High Court bench of Justice Fatema Najib and Justice Shikdar Mahmudur Raji this morning (October 29).

As the court proceedings began in the morning, the counsel for the petitioners informed the court that his clients would not file the two documents.

Later, the court ordered the documents to be removed from the list.

The writ petition, filed yesterday (October 28), named Awami League (AL), Jatiya Party (Ershad), Jatiya Party (Manju), Ganatantri Party, Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal, Bikalpa Dhara Bangladesh, Bangladesh Tarikat Federation, Communist Party of Bangladesh ( CPB), Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), Communist Party of Bangladesh (Marxist-Leninist) (Barua) and Socialist Party of Bangladesh.

In response to their inclusion in the petition, the LDP demanded an apology from the petitioners, the CPB said their mention may have resulted from a misunderstanding, and the Jatiya Party (Ershad) said it would address the matter through legal means.
