FIRST ALERT | Chris Bailey looks ahead to Halloween

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) – It’s Halloween week and things start off on a super cute note, but that doesn’t seem to last all week. In fact, the threat for gusty showers and a few thunderstorms is there for Halloween trick-or-treating. Boo!

Temperatures today are in the 60s to 70s with a mix of sun and clouds. The 70s are back for Tuesday and Wednesday as we prepare for the end-of-month cold front to arrive on Thursday.

This front brings a pretty decent line of showers and storms with it from west to east on Halloween, and most of the action will begin by noon Friday.

There’s even a chance of some storms with that, and I can’t rule out some of those being strong in the west.

Much needed rains are a good bet with these showers and storms. This will likely prevent many cities from finishing in the top 5, or even top 10, driest Octobers on record. Models see some 1 inch rain streaks.

Strong winds are likely on Halloween, with models suggesting peak gusts of 30 mph or more at times.

Cooler winds are blowing through the first few days of November, and another system will move in by early next week.
