No criminal charges will be filed in last month’s shooting death of a Bessemer man at a Birmingham business.

Tremayne Javahn Long, 37, was fatally shot Sept. 20 inside the Third Avenue Package Store.

Sgt. of Birmingham Police. LaQuitta Wade announced Monday that detectives presented their evidence in the case to the Jefferson County District Attorney’s office, which ruled the killing justified.

Long’s death is the tenth murder this year to be ruled justified in Birmingham.

The shooting happened around 12:40 a.m. that Friday at the business, which is in the 1500 block of Third Avenue West.

Police said a physical struggle ensued between Long and another man, leading to the fatal shots being fired.

The shooter’s name will not be released because no charges will be filed.
