Waterbury, CT man arrested in connection with armed robbery

WATERBURY — A Hartford man has been arrested in connection with an armed robbery at a local shoe store, police said.

Jose Rivera-Gonzalez, 52, was arrested Oct. 23 following a search of his home by Waterbury detectives and Hartford police.

The robbery took place at Snipes on October 15 at 6:26 p.m. A male suspect armed with a gun threatened store employees and physically assaulted one before fleeing with an undisclosed amount of cash.

An investigation by the Waterbury Police Department’s Bureau of Criminal Investigation identified Rivera-Gonzalez as the suspect.

During a search of his home, detectives found evidence linking him to the robbery and seized ammunition.

Rivera-Gonzalez, a convicted felon, has an extensive criminal record, including prior charges for robbery, kidnapping, firearms violations, unlawful restraint and theft.

His last known case with Waterbury police was in 2013 for robbing a TD bank, after which he was placed on federal probation.

He faces charges of first-degree robbery, second-degree assault, fifth-degree theft and criminal possession of a firearm/ammunition.

Rivera-Gonzalez is being held by the Connecticut Department of Corrections on a $75,000 bond.
