Clint Eastwood ‘couldn’t make it’ to premiere of possible final film

Clint Eastwood “I couldn’t make it” at the world premiere Sunday night of “Juror #2,” the 40th film he’s directed in his seven-decade career, though the film’s cast and premiere organizers paid tribute, saying, “We love you Clint!”

While the 94-year-old screen legend skipped the premiere at the historic TCL Chinese Theater in Hollywood for unspecified reasons, his daughter Francesca Eastwood walked the red carpet, according to at Variety and Daily Mail. However, she has a role in her father’s legal thriller her recent arrest for domestic violence it made her a somewhat tricky person to represent the Eastwood family or appear with the rest of the cast.

There is also controversy surrounding the minimal fanfare that Warner Bros. gives it for the release of “Juror #2,” which may be Eastwood’s last film given his age, Variety also reported. The film will play in fewer than 50 theaters nationwide this weekend, with no current plans to expand to more locations and no announced dates for when it might be released on a streaming service.

The “less distinguished treatment” that Warner Bros. he offers to “Juror #2” is even more puzzling given that Eastwood’s films are usually box office hits regardless of whether he stars in them or directs them. Moreover, “Jury #2” has so far received positive reviews from critics attending the premiere at AFI Fest. Deadline’s Pete Hammond said that at 94, Oscar-winning filmmaker ‘still got it’ in presenting a classic courtroom tale that is “a riveting, suspenseful thriller,” “one of the most compelling human dramas of his career,” and one of the best films of 2024.

“Juror #2” stars Nicholas Hoult as a family man struggling with recent sobriety, according to Variety. “An unpleasant jury duty brings him face to face with a horrific incident from his past, one that forces moral and criminal dilemmas throughout a contentious murder trial,” as Variety reported. The film also stars Toni Colette as the prosecutor, with Kiefer Sutherland, JK Simmons and Francesca Eastwood rounding out the cast.

At the premiere, AFI president Bob Gazzale informed disappointed fans that Eastwood “couldn’t be here with us tonight, but we’re here for him.” Collette and Hoult later paid tribute to Eastwood, with Collette saying he was “a really good, solid human being. Meeting him was incredible.”

Hoult shared his nervousness about auditioning for Eastwood, and he and Collette recorded a video message for the director. Collette and Hoult also prompted the audience to shout, “We love you, Clint!”

Last week, the Daily Mail reported that the seemingly indomitable actor/director he “struggles” and “has a hard time,” after suffering two significant blows in his personal life.

First, Eastwood’s girlfriend, Christina Sandera, died in July at the age of 61. Then Francesca Eastwood, his 31-year-old daughter’s girlfriend, was arrested on October 12 on suspicion of domestic violence.

“Clint is having a hard time dealing with all the last lows in his life,” a source told the Daily Mail of the Bay Area native and longtime Carmel-by-the-Sea resident.

“Francesca’s arrest couldn’t have come at a worse time in his life, as he feels pretty sad about losing his girlfriend three months ago,” the source added. “To say he’s disappointed is a gross understatement.”

Actor, model and socialite Francesca Eastwood’s arrest has left the father of eight feeling “things are out of control in a way they weren’t before”, especially as being a good father is “extremely important ” for him. , the source continued. While Eastwood wants to “be there for his daughter while she works through this mess,” he needs to take care of himself, the source added.

Francesca Eastwood was arrested Oct. 12 by Beverly Hills police after a verbal argument with her boyfriend turned physical, TMZ reported. The gossip site said she and her boyfriend were driving through Beverly Hills when they started arguing. Once things got physical, the boyfriend called the police, who advised them to drive them to the Beverly Hills Police Department to meet with officers.

When Francesca Eastwood and her boyfriend showed up, they each spoke to police, who saw physical injuries on the boyfriend, TMZ reported. She was arraigned on suspicion of domestic violence and was released from custody on $50,000 bond. The alleged victim has been identified in reports as actor and personal trainer Alexander Wraith, with whom Francesca Eastwood had a son in 2018, according to People magazine.

Francesca Eastwood is one of Eastwood’s eight children. She is also the daughter of actor Frances Fisher, whom the actor/director dated in the early to mid-1990s. Fisher had a role in Eastwood’s 1992 Western Unforgiven, which won Best Picture and best director.

The Francesca Eastwood crisis is particularly upsetting to Eastwood because the two are “close” and “talk quite a lot”. Meanwhile, Eastwood is said to be still grieving for Sandera, his girlfriend of 10 years, who died on July 18 of a heart attack, as reported by People. In a statement released after her death, Eastwood wrote: “Christina was a kind and caring woman and I will miss her dearly.”
