McKinleyville man arrested for robbery and attempted burglary at a local convenience store

Deputies with the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) arrested Michael Armas, 49, of McKinleyville last week in connection with a robbery and attempted burglary.

The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) responded to a report of an attempted robbery at ACE Hardware on Central Avenue around 10am. They said a suspect, identified as Armas, tried to leave the store with several power tools and used pepper spray on employees. before fleeing in a van.

HCSO said deputies later responded to Armas’ home, but he did not comply with their commands, leading to an arrest warrant being issued.

Later that same day at 8:30 p.m., deputies responded to a report of a man trying to break into a home on Van Wycke Street. HCSO said the resident reported he had never had interactions with Armas before and did not know who he was. Deputies responded to the scene and arrested Armas on the warrant and attempted burglary.

Eventually, the sheriff’s office said Armas was booked into the Humboldt County Correctional Facility on a charge of second-degree robbery.
