New charge filed against former coach accused of inappropriate relationship with student

BRUSLY, La. (WAFB) – A man who previously volunteered as a coach at a private Christian school in Addis is now facing charges of domestic battery in addition to previous allegations of indecent behavior.

He was previously arrested in June for allegedly having an inappropriate relationship with a student.

Records show Dennis Clinton Kennamer Jr., 39, of Brusly, was charged with domestic abuse by strangulation.

He was arrested by the Brusly Police Department in June on charges of: one count of computer-assisted solicitation of a minor, two counts of indecent behavior with minors, one count of molestation of a minor or a person with physical or mental disability and two counts of carnal knowledge of a minor.

Kennamer is accused of committing sexual acts with a 16-year-old girl between January and February 2024.

Arrest records show he used the email to communicate with the teenager.

Police Department Assistant Chief Brusly told WAFB that multiple agencies are involved, including the Addis Police Department, which is where the school and church are located. He says the investigation into Kennamer is ongoing and he believes more charges could be brought against him.

He added that the Church in Addis is also being investigated.

Louisiana Christian Academy issued a statement Friday, June 7, detailing its cooperation with law enforcement following the arrest of one of their former volunteer coaches.

According to the statement, the volunteer coach was banned from campus and contact with students after the allegations were brought to the attention of school administration, and an investigation began immediately.

“Children should never be subjected to sexual assault, and we are deeply concerned that someone would try such horrible things with our students,” school officials wrote.

School officials also released the following details about their standard protocols for any incident that is potentially a violation of the law:

  • If the context does not cause problems, an employee can engage their defined tasks (this includes voluntary and salaried employees).
  • If allegations of wrongdoing are made, an investigation ensues.
  • If the allegation involves possible illegal activity, the appropriate law enforcement agencies are notified.
  • CAL is cooperating fully with any investigation.
  • During the investigation, the employee is placed on administrative leave or, in the case of a volunteer, immediately removed from school-related interactions until the matter is resolved.
  • Parents/guardians are informed of any allegation.
  • The final results are the result of the police investigation and their response to the allegations.

The employee/volunteer must pass a background check before interacting with the student, school officials confirmed.
