Two people were taken to the hospital after a crash near Alton on Hwy 60

Alton, Iowa — A Minnesota resident and their passenger were taken to the hospital after a crash on Interstate 60 near Alton on Thursday, November 21st.

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office reports that around 12:20 p.m. Oleksandr Romenkov, 38, of Orange City was driving a 2010 Chrysler Town & Country minivan westbound on 480.th Street, two miles south of Alton. They tell us Derek Tollette, 31, of Osseo, Minn., was driving a 2023 Hyundai Santa Fe southbound on Highway 60. The investigation indicates that Romenkov failed to yield while crossing Highway 60 and hit Tollette.

Tollette and a passenger, were transported by Alton Ambulance and Orange City Ambulance to Orange City Health System.

Romenkov Chrysler sustained approximately $15,000 in damage. The Tollette Hyundai sustained approximately $25,000 in damage.

Romenkov was cited on charges of failure to obey a stop sign and yielding the right of way.

The sheriff’s office says the Alton Fire Department, Orange City Fire Department, Alton Ambulance Squad, Orange City Ambulance Squad, Orange City Police Department and Iowa State Patrol assisted with the crash response.
