Man accused of turning on officer for food discounts

LIBERTY TWP., Ohio (WKBN) – A Youngstown man is facing charges after reports he posed as a police officer to get a discount on food and then paid for the meal using counterfeit bills.

Police received the report that the suspect ordered food at the Denny’s on Belmont Avenue and employees later determined that the food was paid for with counterfeit money.

According to a police report, an employee said the suspect, identified as 32-year-old Jermaine Young, asked about the law enforcement discount and then displayed a Struthers Police Department detective badge. The employee said she reduced Young’s bill and stepped away to help other customers. When he returned, he found that Young and the people he was with had left and two $20 bills were left under Young’s plate.

Employees later discovered the money was fake.

The employee was able to identify the suspect, whom he recognized, the report states.

A Liberty officer spoke with a Struthers officer who confirmed that Young was not employed by the Struthers Police Department and should not be wearing a badge.

Young faces charges of impersonating a police officer, criminal impersonation and theft. Court records show a warrant has been issued for his arrest.
