Woman attacked and killed by 3 dogs in Ontario city

Police and the Ontario coroner are investigating after an 81-year-old woman was attacked and killed by three dogs earlier this week in her home near North Bay.

Ontario Provincial Police said emergency crews responded to a 911 call around 10 a.m. Monday morning to find the elderly woman dead at a home in Bonfield, about 30 kilometers southeast of of North Bay.

The 911 caller reported a person was fatally injured after being attacked by dogs, North Bay OPP said in a news release Friday.

The OPP said in an email to INsauga.com that “the dogs were in the residence at the time of the attack and were still at the residence” when police arrived.

The OPP spokesperson added that the North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit placed a 10-day quarantine on the dogs involved.

No foul play is suspected and no criminal charges have been filed at this time, police said.

Police did not say whether the woman owned the dogs or identify the breed or breeds of the animals involved.

A police spokesperson told INsauga.com that “both the dogs and the victim resided at the residence.”

“The investigation is now being conducted by the Office of the Chief Coroner for Ontario in collaboration with the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service,” the OPP said in the news release.

A post-mortem examination was carried out in Sudbury on Wednesday, investigators said.
