Winter Wonderland ‘scam’ as punters charged £16 for a slice of chips | Great Britain | News

Visitors to the Winter Wonderland have been shocked by the price of food, with a stall charging £16 for a portion of crisps.

The popular Christmas event, which takes place in Hyde Park, is known for its attractions and festive atmosphere, but this year some visitors have raised concerns about rising costs.

At the Texas Smoker food stand, a single portion of fries costs £16 and chilli cheese fries – topped with beef brisket chilli, cheese and chipotle sauce – for £18.

And the high price has sparked mistrust among some visitors. The stand, which has a 1946 Chevy fire truck as its centerpiece, bills itself as an “original barbecue house” and offers big, American-style portions.

However, while some visitors may find the prices hard to swallow, the Texas Smoker isn’t the only food option at Winter Wonderland.

For example, halloumi fries can be found at other stalls for as little as £4.50. Many of the food stalls also offer a variety of cuisines to suit different tastes and budgets.

Winter Wonderland, which runs for six weeks from November 21 to January 5, features a range of attractions including the Magical Ice Kingdom, a Ferris Wheel and the Bavarian Village.

Visitors can explore the market stalls, enjoy festive rides or relax in themed bars. However, the cost of food and drink has become a sticking point for some.

On social media, several visitors expressed their frustration, with some describing the event as overpriced.

Others shared tips like bringing their own food to save money.

A repeat visitor commented on TripAdvisor: “It’s always a great experience, but the costs are just too high.”

Another person wrote: “Second time here, traveled from Germany to London. Always great but paid too much, same thing.”

A third added: ‘Get out! Overpriced will never work again and don’t bother paying for the fast track takes so long. They should not be allowed what the costs are.”

Others, however, liked it. One person wrote: “A must every Christmas. Not really a riding person, but I think it’s a place you should go with friends and family.”

Another added: “A good way to while away a few hours to get you in the Christmas mood.”

Hyde Park Winter Wonderland runs for six weeks from Thursday 21 November 2024 to Sunday 5 January 2025.

Entry to Winter Wonderland is free during peak hours, but peak hour entry and access to some activities requires a paid ticket.

Visitors who spend an additional £25 per person on paid attractions, rides or games when booking their ticket are entitled to free entry.
